Lagrange

Overview

I've been making short films for a few years now. While I've learned alot, they haven’t represented the kind of feature length films I really want to make.

I like “hard” sci-fi with a brain and a heart.

Hollywood doesn't make movies like that very often, but when they do there are usually at least 8 digits in the budget. Lagrange is a short film written specifically to showcase how a talented cast and crew can do a whole lot with very little.

If you read the script and think, “You’re nuts if you think you can do this in your garage with a few volunteers.” then you’re probably right. But if you can envision how talent, time and technology could allow fillmakers in 2022 to turn a garage into the space between the Earth and Moon, then read on and consider joining the team that is gonna do just that.

→ That all sounds lovely, but for real, how are you going to do this in your garage? (CLICK TO LEARN HOW)

It's okay to be skeptical. We've all seen our fair share of crappy low budget sci-fi that looks like crappy low budget sci-fi. And there's certainly no shortage of delusional filmmakers who bite off way more than they can chew.

Beth's escape pod will be built in three pieces: the nose and two sides. Beth's chair will be mounted to a raised platform. This structure allows camera access from all angles. Everything required can be found at Amazon, Home Depot & the junkyard.

The pod's plexiglass window will be purposely weathered in order to help sell the view out into space, which will be filmed on the day, not composited in post.

Two 75" LED screens will be used to simultaneously provide the visuals outside the pod's small window, and those same visuals along with a few practicals will light the set. When the big bright blue Earth is on screen, it will bathe the pod in blue light. When all we see is dark space outside, then the pod will be dark. (Essentially a miniature version of the virtual set used on productions like the Mandalorian.)

We don't need a lot of money to pull this off, we need creativity, talent & hard work - primarily production design, carpentry, and Blender animation/rendering.

Sure, I'd love to perform hard labor for no money and mediocre craft services. How do I get involved?
